“A lot of startups treat pricing as a math problem or, worse, an afterthought. Pricing is as much an art as it is a science, one that relies as much on marketing and psychology as it does on classical economics.” You might want to revisit your product pricing using The Sequoia Guide to Pricing.

So how much traction do you need to raise money? The answer is – there’s no hard number. This is what Josh Breinlinger of Sigma West is looking for: “What I want to see is something that looks like it will continue to grow and scale consistently for many years to come.”

“The good thing about SaaS is the revenue recurs.  The bad news, is it always has to be recurring by a materially higher absolute amount each quarter, each year.” Highly recommended reading from Jason Lemkin: what to do if your business decelerates because it happens to everyone, as least at some small scale.

Len Markidan at Groove explains the three reasons why “upsell” isn’t a dirty word. “But when used properly, upselling can actually bring you closer to your customers, while bringing you more revenue, better retention and lower churn.”

What are the three things recurring-revenue companies get that others don’t? Let’s start with: customer experience investment has financial growth impact. “It’s only a matter of time before the post-sale expectations that recurring-revenue companies are setting with customers spread to other companies. Trust me, you want to be on the right side of history on this one.”
